Biography

Myron Bailey was elected mayor in 2009. Prior to becoming mayor, he served as a city council member for four years and on the planning commission for six years.

When talking about serving Cottage Grove, Mayor Bailey says: “Cottage Grove has a small-town feel with big-city amenities! I believe in our city slogan: Where Pride and Prosperity Meet! We are a city that is open for business as we work with new and existing businesses to make Cottage Grove home. We provide great services to our citizens through our fantastic public safety, public works, and parks and recreation teams. We have a unique character that makings living in Cottage Grove special. Education

Mayor Bailey grew up in Cottage Grove where he attended Pine Hill Elementary School, Oltman Middle School and Park High School. He graduated from Century College in White Bear Lake with an associate degree in child development. He also completed general studies at the University of Minnesota.

Professional Experience

Mayor Bailey's business background is in the retail sector. Currently he is the District Manager for Dollar Tree, where he has been employed for the past three years. He has also worked in leadership roles with Pawn America, Radio Shack, Destination XL, Toys ‘R Us and Payless Shoe Source. He has held many leadership positions, including regional director. 

Memberships

Mayor Bailey is very active in the community because he is very passionate about giving back to the community! He is president of the Cottage Grove Economic Development Authority (EDA) and currently serves on the Metropolitan Council’s Transportation Advisory Board (TAB). He is the current president of the Youth Service Bureau of Washington County and past president of Metro Cities. He is a past member of the Board of Directors for the League of Minnesota Cities, past president of the Cottage Grove Strawberry Festival Committee, and past president of All Saints Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove. 

Personal Life

Mayor Bailey has been married to Cindy for 38 years. Cindy and Myron are both Park High graduates. They have three boys (Matthew, Nicholas, and Nathan) and four grandchildren (Easton, Sawyer, Carter, and Ryan). Mayor Bailey loves gardening, is a Star Trek Next Generation fan, and is known as "Mayor Christmas" — he loves celebrating the holidays by decorating his house with a very large outdoor Christmas display.
