The Cottage Grove Fire Department has been recognized nationally for providing outstanding care to people having heart attacks and chest pain.
The department received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline EMS Silver achievement award for its commitment to rapid and research-based care to people experiencing the most severe form of heart attacks.
“The care these patients receive before they get to the hospital is critical in saving their lives and I’m proud that our fire department is recognized as one of the best,” Public Safety Director Pete Koerner said. “As someone who suffered a heart attack, I know first-hand the outstanding care our paramedics and EMTs provide. They are saving lives.”
Optimal care for heart attack patients takes coordination between the individual hospital, EMS and health care system.
The Cottage Grove Fire Department partners with United and Regions hospitals and receives its medical direction from Regions EMS.
