Public Works Open House
The next Public Works Open House will be in the fall of 2019
Cottage Grove residents of all ages are invited to enjoy displays and demonstrations of Public Works big rigs, snow plows, dump trucks, tractors and mowers. Also enjoy a hayride, inflatable bouncers, balloon animals, face painting and food. There will be several area vendors on location with plenty of freebies!
Boulevard Tree TrimmingEach year a portion of Cottage Grove is chosen to have the Boulevard trees trimmed. Boulevard trees on the list and located in the City’s right-of-way will be trimmed beginning in December (weather permitting). The boulevard, typically 10 to 15 feet from the curb to the property line, is part of the street right-of-way. Residents are asked to remove holiday lights on boulevard trees to eliminate safety hazards or damage to the lights.
To protect the City's water supply, all Cottage Grove water mains are flushed in the spring and fall. Public Works Department employees flush the water mains by opening each of the 1300 plus fire hydrants in Cottage Grove. The sudden rush of water loosens and removes accumulated mineral deposits from the lines. This process often causes discoloration of your water in the home.
SnowplowingReminder - Nov. 1 through March 31, the Cottage Grove Winter Parking Ban is in effect. For more information please click here!
The Public Works Streets division will begin snow removal when there is two inches or more of accumulated snow in the City. The process of snow removal from City streets, walking trails and sidewalks takes anywhere from six to eight hours to complete to ensure city residents safe traveling conditions. All of the Public Works divisions including Utilities, Parks Maintenance and Fleet Maintenance assist the Streets division in snow removal to ensure the quickest and safest snow removal for the City’s residents.
Spring Cleanup DayThe annual spring cleanup day is held once per year on the first Saturday in May.
